3D Art and Traditional Art Work |

There has been a rumor that traditional art skills aren't needed to become a 3D artist. I've read the debates and after experiencing this first hand myself I wanted to write a helpful article. Yes 3D is a tool to create artwork and with that tool you have a computer helping you. It is also true that taking time to sketch your ideas out can help you build models faster and more creative.
Part of your learning should be with a pencil and paper. I find that at odd time when I'm not around my computer creative ideas will hit me. That's when I draw them down on paper so that I don't forget them. Trust me when I say this, my sketches are nothing near quality artwork. That's why I'm a 3D artist. But it does help to draw your ideas on paper for future reference. Like anything in this world you need to practice these skills. With time you'll notice that your traditional art skills will improve with your 3D skills. I've always said it is the artist who creates artwork and not their tools. If you can't draw the whole object, no problem, just start working on parts. Writers do this all the time to over come writers block. Most of my drawings are small pieces that will later be pieced together in the end. So on your next project take the time to start out with a piece of paper and a pencil. You'll be surprised how it turns out.
